Interview of Coach Hill
I interview the head coach John Hill for my interviewee because I one day want to be a head coach of my own basketball team. He was a great person to interview because he has been coaching for 30+ years. He told me that for most of his career, he coach at Heidelberg (27 years). He also had one of his assistant coaches as his players at Heidelberg, Jerry Buccilla. He has also been an athletic director for a school as well. Some advice he gave me was to pick up on any skill that relates to basketball or any sport for that matter. He went on to explain that in the business of sports, you almost never start at the top. You must work your way up from the bottom and having the different skills that can potentially help a coach, will eventually get to the spot of that coach. He also gave me another piece of advice that I was already aware of but I love to hear it anyway. He said that "As a coach, your job is never secure." He said it is because at this level, everyone is expecting you to win and when you don't, the organization is quick to find someone else who they think could win. Overall, I thought that Coach Hill was very informative in the interview that we had. He not only gave me the positives about being in the industry, but also gave me the negatives about being in the sports world as well. Those are the things that you need to hear if you are really trying to enter into the sports world. Its all fun but at the same time, you have to be on top of your job and make sure that you are doing it to the best of your abilities.
